ABOUT pomona ag

Pomona Ag Supplies is owned and operated by Stuart and Barbara Irvine, who purchased the rural supplies store in 2018. As people who live and breathe the land, animals and their garden, they understand first-hand how important it is to have all the equipment and supplies to keep a small property running. They make every effort to stock all necessities for your property – be it large large rural or modest, your animals – be they domestic or farm, and your garden – be it backyard or rambling.

Life before Pomona Ag

Stuart was born in Mitchell, QLD and learned to ride a horse about the same time he learned to walk.
He worked on cattle and sheep properties during school breaks before moving to Scotland, continuing his education, then joining the Shell Oil Company. He worked in company management positions in Scotland and South America for many years and during his spare time was a keen one and three day eventer.

Barbara spent her early adult years owning and managing a turnkey computer systems solution company, supplying the mental health industries in America. She eventually sold the business in 1993 however, her primary hobby has always been gardening.

Barb and Stuart met by chance on a celestial navigation sailing course in the Caribbean. They lived aboard their 50f foot sailing yacht in the Caribbean, Atlantic and the Mediterranean for 10 years, sailing to far flung parts of the globe, wherever Stuart’s work took them.

Home to the Hinterland

The couple chose ‘retirement’ in the paradise of SE Queensland Hinterland, bringing them back into horses as well as alpacas, cows, pet sheep, dogs, cats, chooks, peacocks and guinea fowl. They own two heritage Australian stock horses, Chance and Jack, a quarab mare, Shiraz, and a lovely, retired Thoroughbred, Reggie.

They have dabbled in campdrafting, teampenning and SCATER, but now enjoy playing around in the arena with novelties and often venture out the back gate to ride the trails between Cooran, Kin Kin and Mother Mountain.

Knowledge of gardening and animals comes from a lifetime of personal experience, being avid readers and enjoying learning about the things they love. They both continue to research to be able to provide the best animal and gardening information for both themselves and their customers.

Barb and Stuart are always willing to do their homework to get to the bottom of a problem – that itchy horse,  finicky cat, or strange and wonderful pests eating fruit trees – so don’t hesitate to ask them how they can help with yours too.
